| The best course I’ve played, last year (2009) and the best course ever is Golf De Royan in South West France. We spend our holidays in this region and played there at least three times a week. The course is a Par 72 set in a beautiful pine forest, each hole is totally different and quite challenging. The back nine is very hilly, so when the temperature gets over 28 a buggy is advisable. If you are in the area, this course is a must! Sent in by Gillian Edmead from Wellingborough |
I would not describe it as the best course I have ever played on and you would not pick Antigua as a golfing destination but Cedar Valley, described as a Championship Course, proved to be an extremely pleasant surprise. We had taken short sets and only intended to play when we got fed up with the beach, swimming, sailing, kayaking, lying in the sun and relaxing. Although I would not rate the fairways, nor the greens for consistentcy, but the layout was superb and the flag position on the split level 3rd green provided the four of us with immense amusement. We had to go back the next day for another round. Would I play it again for enjoyment? You betcha! Sent in by Michael Miller from Budleigh Salterton, Devon |
On a trip to California we looked in at Pebble Beach, but having watched 3 very senior players take 4 shots to get round the first bend, we had second thoughts .We were then directed to Laguna Seca which is inland from Pebble Beach and sells equipment with the same logos and was considerably cheaper particularly as were then in their twilight zone. We had the beautifully manicured course to ourselves with the exception of another couple and had a delightful round. Sent in by Richard Day from Bridgnorth, Shropshire |
For the last ten years P Heron, P Behena, K Bailey and myself have played golf in Normandy France. We always stay at the Hotel de golf Bariere three nights with four games, one different course each year. In 2009 we tried Club de l'Amiraute designed by Bill Baker a marshland course 6659 yds with seven long water hazards. It has very wide fairways with large greens. The course has 31 Sculptures spread about with good water features and fantastic views towards Deauville. The club house is very modern with helpfull friendly staff. As long as you understand the Barnes Wallis Principle you will enjoy this one! - Sent in by J Weston, Ringood, Hampshire |
The best course I have played was at Royan - Maine Gaudin in Charente.
My husband and I entered a special competition there in September . We played with a French couple who were members of the Club. It was a Texas Scramble but slightly different to ours in UK!
Half way round there was a table laid with pate, olives and a few snacks together with a nice glass of red wine - you can imagine how our golf was after that.
We had a thoroughly memorable time in the event and the golf course is, in my view, second to none in the area. The steward and stewardess, Christian and Marie and all the bar staff, were so friendly and our partners in the event were very amiable and we enjoyed the day immensely. Would repeat the occasion any time. Sent in by Hazel Loyd from Swansea |
