Heath host 2011 Senior’s Open

Walton Heath Golf Club will host The Senior Open Championship for the first time from July 21-24, 2011, 30 years after the Surrey venue staged a historic Ryder Cup. The Senior Open Championship returns to the south of England for only the second time, following the success of the 2009 Championship at Sunningdale where American Loren Roberts beat Mark McNulty of Ireland and another American, Fred Funk, in an exciting play-off.

Walton Heath’s place in history was sealed in 1981 when it became the first European venue to host a Ryder Cup between a combined European Team – rather than Great Britain and Ireland – and the United States. Thirteen members of the European and United States Teams from that year played in The 2009 Senior Open Championship and many are expected to return to the course for next year’s Championship, including 2009 European Senior Tour Order of Merit winner Sam Torrance who made his Ryder Cup debut at the venue. This year’s Senior Open Championship presented by MasterCard will also be played at a new venue from July 22-25, 2010 when it visits Carnoustie, where Watson won the first of his five Open Championships in 1975.

Chipping in! Our number one featured club website this month is The Dorset Golf & Country Club, Dorset

The Dorset Golf & Country Club hosts two of the most challenging courses in Dorset and is recognized as one of the golfing gems of the South of England. The Martin Hawtree designed; Lakeland/Parkland and Woodland courses are built to full USGA specification and are extremely well maintained, presenting excellent playing conditions for all levels of golfers. The Championship Lakeland Course, Par 72, provides a great golfing experience with beautifully sculptured greens, surrounded by cleverly placed bunkers. The course also boasts some of the most picturesque lakes and waterways you could find on any course. The Woodland Course, Par 66, offers a contrasting challenge to our main course with tight tree lined fairways, which have been carved through a forest of rhododendrons. We have a floodlight driving range consisting of 22 bays, 12 under cover enabling all year round practice. We are open from 8am till 8pm. more info...
